Vibe Magazine
L – The main photo on the front cover is of Usher looking much laid back and gangster with big bling on and sunglasses. He Usher is sticking up one finger with his ring on and it appears as if he’d be looking into the camera if he didn’t have sunglasses on. The mast head goes behind ushers head making him seem more important, all writing on the page is behind his head and had but in front of the rest of his body making his hand and head really stand out. There is lots of colours but the main ones are yellow black and blue. It is called ‘The sexy issue’ With the words seemingly scribbled over this saying ‘swagger’
I - Miller Publishing bought Vibe in 1996, and shortly afterward bought Spin. The private equity group The Wicks Group of Companies bought the magazine in 2006.
I – The magazine shows that the R&B genre is all about sexiness, money and a little bit of gangster.
A – The target audience for this music magazine is teenagers/young adults.
R- The music genre is represented with ‘swagger; and ‘sexiness’ and the famous music artist usher.
Q Magazine
I – The MCU is of Beyoncé and it makes her look very beautiful and natural, it is a medium shot. She is wearing a white bodice fastened at the front which makes her look very pure and innocent but still sexy. The magazine masthead is in the top left hand corner very large and a bright red which is the only splash of colour on the magazine except a small advertisement at the bottom. There is a border going all around the edge of the magazine advertising that it is a 20th anniversary special. Because it is a 20th anniversary special It advertises how inside there is a list of the 20 greatest albums and tracks of Q’s life and there is 20 exclusive interviews, including one with Beyoncé which is in larger writing going over her body so it is relevant to the main image.
I – Q magazine is published by Bauer Media, a German publishing company based in Hamburg
I – The double page spread on Lily Allen gives the magazine an edge with her checked shirt and how the main heading looks like it has been cut out of a magazine titled ‘people think I’m an attention seeker, but I’m just honest’ gives the magazine a really cool open sort of look. The music genre is R&B and the target audience is a wide range but generally I would say young adults.
R - The featured artist is Beyoncé and she is represented as innocent and natural with the grass behind her in a natural setting holding and umbrella and her bodice shows off her womanly curves.

Rolling Stones Magazine
L- The photo is a shot of a good looking new star pulling up his top. It is of his top half and he is smiling but not looking into the camera. The connotation next to the image is ‘The new American heart throb, Zac Efron’ he is wearing a white T-shirt which looks good as it is the same colour as the background. The colour of the connotation is red which stands out against the white. It is slightly overlapping the image so you can tell that they are connected and the connotation is related to the main image.
I - Jann Simon Wenner (born January 7, 1946) is the co-founder and publisher of the music and politics biweekly Rolling Stone, as well as the owner of Men's Journal and Us Weekly magazines. Source: Wikipedia.
I – From the front cover of the magazine you can see the issue is aimed at the younger generation by talking about Zac Efron and ‘Punk Rock Fight Club’ at the bottom Sex, terror & hip hop are advertised, all things that would interest younger people rather than older.
A – This magazine is aimed at a younger generation.
R – Zac Efron on the front cover is made to look young cheeky happy and attractive by the magazine.

The brief of my music magazine,
Using a DTP and aan image manipulation program i will produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plues some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally i must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate my grasp of DTP.

My Evaluation in LIAAR
LIIAR analysis of my magazine
L- The title of my magazine is WYKE COLLEGE MAGAZINE this is memorable as it’s the college’s own magazine so students will still associate it with the college. I presented it largely on the page to grab reader’s attention. My main image covered most of the page and was of the head and shoulders only, I tried my best to make the subjects face clearer but I think it could have been made clearer. She is making contact with the camera so it looks as if she is looking into the audience’s eyes, making it seem as if the magazine is aimed at them. I used a bright purple and white for my colour scheme although the picture of a football with a florescent green added a nice different bit of colour. There is thumbnail images to illustrate articles with anchorage, the magazine is free, which I stated and so there doesn’t need to be a bar code. Along the bottom I advertised chances of competitions and winning an iPod touch. My main image links with the feature article and it is made clear they connect as it advertises it slightly overlapping my main image.
I – My magazine is different to others as it aimed at Wyke students by Wyke students, all articles are fun but informative, and it gets the point across whilst still appealing to students so they want to read it.
I – My magazine contains articles about becoming a professional footballer, becoming a model and Wyke party’s but it also includes features more serious mixed up with the fun, articles about university choices and safe sex.
A – My Magazine is aimed at anyone who attends Wyke College; generally this is 16-19 year olds which is why I have included articles about parties, pretty girls and football which is what this age group is generally interested in.
R – The students are portrayed very positively in this magazine. There is page which show off their recent achievements and it informs them of lots of upcoming opportunities.

How I would premote the launch of my magazine
I would make a link on the official Wyke website, sending viewers to the magazines sub link, advertising the realise of the new up coming magazine, showing off the features and the uniqueness of this new free magazine. It will inform students that they will recieve there free copy in a tutor session with a set date. The issues in the magazine would not be on the website, instead it will just give information on when the next issue is and chances to take part in featured competitions online. On screens across the college the Wyke College Mag will be advertised a month before it's realise so there is a big work up to its realise. This is a rough draft of how my website may look.

Drafts of my front cover
2. I like this draft alot better than my first one and i like the white band at the bottom showing the advertisment, i think the plain purple background is to plain.
1. I like this draft but after speaking to my media teacher i descided i wanted to make the writing more fun, and the captions under the photos larger, i would also like the caption that goes over my image to look like it belongs to the picture more than being up in the air. I also need to add a date and issue number.Tuesday, 18 October 2011
A collection of my images
I dont like this picture as i feel it is slightly unfocused and her eyes and facial features aren't clear.
I feel this picture is slightly clearer but not as clear as i'd like i also feel that her eyes are not open enough.
I like this picture but i feel there is too much noise and here eyes are not clear enough, which i'd like them to be to capture the audiences attention.
The thing i don't like about this picture is how you can see the reflection of the camera on the screen of the computer. Unlike the other images the screen of the computer is blocking out quite alot of the rest of the room.
I like this picture as it shows off the libary with the high ceilings and large glass windows. But i think there may be to much attention on the screen of the computer.
I like how in this picture you can see some other Wyke buildings but i think over all it is too dark.Monday, 17 October 2011

Pomona College LIIAR Analysis
LIIAR:
L – The Mast head is Pomona College magazine; this will be easy for the members of the college to remember. The Main image is a picture of a new born baby looking tiny held in someone’s hands. The baby is so small and cute looking that it’s asleep it attracts the audience’s attention. The Colour scheme is green and shades of brown, the green writing really stands out. There is no thumbnail picture, just the main image which takes up most of the page. There is also very intriguing anchorage ‘birth and death’ There is also some information at the top of the magazine which tells us about some inside issues that mainly seem to be related to birth. There is no price or barcode and no advertisement of competitions or free gifts. Everything on the page relates to the main image of a baby.
I – This is a college magazine so there most probably won’t be any other magazine of the sort for that college and so students will want to purchase it.
I - I think the magazine is mainly informative and wants to get across information to students. It doesn’t seem to try to make things fun but the picture and contents seem interesting but just not fun, and maybe slightly old for 18 to 21 year olds.
A – The target audience is students of Pomona College generally aged 18 to 21 year olds as it is a college in America.
R – The target audience is able to put to use all the information in the magazine later on in to their work so they must find it very well in that way. Because the magazine is so intellectual the students are represented very positively.

Grimbsy College LIIAR Analysis
LIIAR:
L – I think the Grimsby College magazine is more interesting than East ridings and the Heading looks more interesting as it is large in an interesting font and stands out. The main image is ok although the boy seems to be overpowering the girl who has writing over her and is a lot smaller. The colour scheme is orange blue and white which looks better than the East Ridings. There are a couple of thumbnail images but you they are not clear which article they are for. Again there is no price or barcode or competitions. There are three articles advertised, one seems to be aimed more to females, one more to males and one at both but all three seem to be interesting for 16-19 year olds to read.
I – The magazine is to get across information to students of the Grimsby College , I believe it was done fairly well and although the contents page is a bit too busy with too many things going on I like the names of the article and thing that teenagers will want to read on. The adverts on the contents page possibly fund the magazine but they do make it look too crowded.
I - Its conveying serious information in a cool and fun way, it has articles on drugs and alcohol, and also world wide knowledge from someone who’s been to china and a model who attends Grimsby college. This is showing that Grimsby College have the students best interests at heart but they also want to keep them interested and motivated.
A – The target audience is students of Grimsby College generally aged 16 to 18.
R - They include the target audience by saying things young people use such as ‘ the word on the street’ and ‘booze drugs and life’ the college is represented in a cool way by the blue and orange colour scheme and it is portrayed as a positive place to be.
East Riding College LIIAR Analysis
LIIAR:
L - The masthead is ‘Student Life’ but I find this to plain and not memorable and I also think the font is very boring and doesn’t stand out. The main image is very bland in black and white colours of students from the back, not making the reader want to even read on and not connecting in any way to the reader by being appealing or making eye contact. The colour scheme is very dull in black and white and there are no thumbnails to introduce other articles. There is no price or barcode and the contents along the bottom are unclear and uninteresting. There is no advertisement of competitions or free gifts and no main article is featured.
I – The magazine is to get across information to students of the East Riding College, I believe although I do think it could have been done in a much more interesting and exciting way.
I – I think the magazine is trying to get points across to students mixing it with things about cars and beauty and accommodation so there is something in there for everyone but also notes from the principal and more serious issues. I think this is a good way to make students want to get the magazine, knowing it has things they are interested in, but there will also be more serious things made fun.
A – The magazine is clearly aimed at the students of East Riding because of inside issues on the contents page such as ‘your thoughts’ but I think they could have made the magazine more appealing to 16 – 18 year olds by making the front cover more appealing to look at
R – Because on the contents page there is pictures of students art work, students holding up certificates and doing various activities the college is representing their students in a positive way.

LIIAR Analysis of the brief
L- My product will contain a mast head which will be short and memorable and presented large with an icon. My main image will be an MCU, the picture will be posed for and making eye contact into the camera, I will possibly include anchorage. I will have a bring colour scheme with a two or three colours and include a price and barcode, teasing contents, possibly competition and free gifts and an advertisement of the main article and a feature image. I may also include other thumbnail images to illustrate inside articles.
I - I am producing my magazine for Wyke college, there a similar magazines by Hull College and Grimsby College but there is a gap in the market as there currently isn’t one for Wyke College.
I – For my college magazine I would like it to get across important information in a fun and appealing way so students will want to read the magazine.
A – My chosen audience is college students, generally ages 16 – 18 for both boys and girls of Wyke College
R – I want the magazine to portray Wyke College In a positive way, also showing students in a positive way.

My brief of my schools magazine front cover and contents page
On my front cover I need to give my magazine a main imagine of a headshot (MCU). Posed for? Extra smaller images? Eye contact with the audience? The colours should be bright and eye catching and to establish a house style I would need to use the same three colours all the way through with one or two different font styles. My magazine would need a mast head that is big and stands out and possibly a web address, maybe at the bottom? It should also include my college’s logo and a tagline or slogan and the date and issue. Unless the magazine is free I need to let the audience know the price and include a barcode on to my front page. I will need to include a few bits about the contents, letting the audience know what they can find inside the issue. For the contents page I need to about funny slogans and pictures which I will put a caption with. This page will look different and exciting
